The first shipment of GPH steel billets exported to China

Bangladesh’s GPH Steel has opened new horizons in billet exports to China. Speakers made the remarks at the inauguration of the first billet export shipment from Bangladesh to China on a digital platform on Wednesday (November 18).

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said the export of GPH steel billets has brought potential and good news for the country and the nation even during the difficult times of Corona. They have created a huge workload in the steel world.

He called for activating various embassies to increase exports to the international market.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, “I will convey the information of GPH steel billet export to Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.” GPH Steel has set an example by adding new items to export baskets.

Referring to himself as an exporter, the Commerce Minister said GPH Steel has created foreign exchange earnings, electricity and gas-friendly environmentally friendly green factories by exporting steel products produced in the garment industry. In this context, the Ministry of Commerce is considering the application of GPH Steel for cash incentives for export of MS billets and MS products.

At this stage of the program, the Minister of Industry and Commerce gave a good start to the program. Then balloons are flown from the plant.

Chittagong Chamber President Mahbubal Alam said, “GPH Steel is our veteran member and emerging industry. They are exporting non-traditional item billets. By exporting billets, it has brought international respect to the private sector. The Chittagong Chamber will give them more support in the future.
Speaking on the occasion, Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad, Chairman, Chittagong Port Authority, said, “Today is a day of pride not only for GPH Steel but also for Chittagong Port.” This will inspire new industries.

With the experience of inspecting the factory, he said that GPH Steel is producing international standard products of state-of-the-art technology with their extraordinary skills and capabilities.

Munshi Shahabuddin Ahmed, chairman of the Trade and Tariff Commission, said it was a new addition to the implementation of Mujib’s centenary and Sheikh Hasina’s mission and vision.

Welcoming the gathering, GPH Group Chairman and Managing Director Mohammad Jahangir Alam said, “We are going to generate foreign exchange earnings by directly exporting unused billets of GPH steel and directly and indirectly create employment for about one lakh people.” At the same time, we plan to increase exports by US 80-100 million in 2020-21. With the help of government policies, we will be able to attract foreign investment. We hope that other steel producing companies in Bangladesh will come forward in export at the same time.

Mohammad Alamgir Kabir, Chairman, GPH Steel, said, “We need to do global branding while maintaining quality.

Mohammad Almas Shimul, Additional Managing Director of GPH Steel, said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 2041 Mission and Vision 2020 has implemented GPH Steel.

He thanked all the stakeholders including Industries Minister, Commerce Minister, Chairman Trade and Tariff Commission, President Chittagong Chamber, Chairman Port.
